Operations
At Wy’East Virtual Airlines, our operations are designed to strike a thoughtful balance between realism and flexibility. We aim to create a believable airline environment supported by modern systems, while respecting that our pilots fly for enjoyment, not obligation. The result is an operation that feels structured, immersive, and professional—without being restrictive.
Quick Navigation
Callsign & Airline Identity
Wy’East Virtual Airlines operates under the following identifiers:
-
ICAO: WYE
-
IATA: WY
-
Callsign: WY’EAST (Pronounced WHY-EAST)
These identifiers should be used when flying online on networks such as VATSIM, IVAO, or PilotEdge.
ACARS & Flight Tracking
All official Wy’East flights are tracked using the FlightLinq ACARS platform. ACARS provides automated flight tracking from pushback to shutdown, allowing pilots to focus on flying rather than manual reporting.
Key features include:
-
Automated PIREP submission
-
Live flight monitoring
-
Accurate block time and flight data logging
-
Seamless integration with the Wy’East route network
Flights must be logged through FlightLinq to be counted toward pilot statistics and progression.
Pilot Performance Metrics
In addition to basic flight tracking, FlightLinq provides advanced pilot performance metrics. These metrics offer pilots detailed feedback on each flight, including landing performance and overall flight quality.
Performance data is intended as a learning and self-improvement tool, not a grading or enforcement system. Pilots are encouraged to review their metrics to refine technique and track personal progress over time.
PIREP Review & Auto-Approval
Wy’East Virtual Airlines uses automated PIREP processing through FlightLinq to streamline operations while maintaining reasonable quality standards.
PIREPs will be automatically approved when all of the following criteria are met:
-
Maximum landing rate: −600 feet per minute
-
Minimum PIREP score: 75%
-
Maximum paused time: 90 minutes total
-
Maximum simulation rate: 4× (offline flying only)
Flights that fall outside any of these parameters will be flagged for manual review by staff. Manual review exists to provide oversight and clarification where needed, not to penalize pilots. When appropriate, constructive feedback may be provided to help improve future flights.
Pilot Eligibility & Joining Requirements
Wy’East Virtual Airlines welcomes pilots of all experience levels, provided the following minimum requirements are met:
-
Minimum age: 16 years old
-
Application requirement: Successful completion of a short multiple-choice exam covering basic flight principles in an airline operating environment
The entry exam is designed to confirm foundational knowledge and ensure a shared baseline understanding of airline operations. It is not intended to be difficult or exclusionary.
Upon acceptance, pilots receive immediate access to the full fleet and route network.
Pilot Ranks & Progression
Wy’East Virtual Airlines uses a rank structure to recognize experience and participation.
-
There are no minimum monthly flight or hour requirements
-
Rank progression is steady and attainable
-
Ranks do not restrict aircraft access
Ranks exist for recognition and engagement only and are not used to gate routes or fleet types.
Rank | Abbreviation | Hours Required | Flights Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
First Officer | FO | 0 | 0 | New hire / entry rank |
Senior First Officer | SFO | 40 | 20 | Fully line-qualified pilot |
Captain | CPT | 120 | 65 | Aircraft command authority |
Senior Captain | SCP | 250 | 150 | Veteran pilot |
Summit Captain | SCM | 450 | 275 | Elite Wy'East Captain |
Booking & Scheduling
Wy’East operates on an open scheduling model designed to maximize flexibility while keeping the schedule usable for all pilots.
-
Pilots may fly any published route at any time
-
No pre-booking or dispatch approval is required
-
Routes may be flown repeatedly if desired
-
Booked flights must be flown within 8 hours
Flights that are booked but not flown within 8 hours will be considered abandoned bookings, released back to the schedule, and flagged in Operations.
Repeated no-shows may impact operational availability. Five (5) abandoned bookings within a calendar month will trigger an operational violation and may require staff review.
Weather, Alternates & Diversions
Pilots are encouraged to operate with realistic planning and sound aeronautical decision-making.
Guidelines:
-
Real-world weather is recommended but not required
-
Adequate fuel reserves should be planned
-
Filing alternates is encouraged when conditions warrant
Diversions to pre-planned alternates are fully permitted. When a diversion occurs, pilots should document the reason in their PIREP through FlightLinq.
Economy System (Beta)
Wy’East Airlines is rolling out FlightLinq’s economy system in beta. It adds a light layer of “supply and demand” to the network—so flights won’t always feel identical day to day, and your choices can influence the results.
-
Demand fluctuates: Passenger loads are dynamic. Routes that get flown repeatedly may see lighter loads until demand regenerates.
-
Cargo counts: When available, belly cargo can materially improve a flight’s results—especially on longer sectors.
-
Regional quirks (beta): The current beta model may not reflect realistic profitability on smaller aircraft, particularly on very short segments. This is a known limitation and will improve as the system matures.
-
Opportunities: Some flights may appear as opportunity flying, which includes a bonus payout and helps encourage variety across the network.
We’ll continue refining our guidance as the beta evolves. In the meantime: fly what you enjoy, mix up your routes, and treat the economy results as part of the sim—not a pass/fail scorecard.
Simulation Settings
Wy’East Virtual Airlines supports a wide range of simulation setups.
Time Acceleration:
-
Up to 4× acceleration is permitted during offline flying
-
No time acceleration is allowed while flying on VATSIM, IVAO, or PilotEdge
Online Networks:
-
VATSIM and IVAO are fully supported within ACARS. PilotEdge is planned
-
All network rules and ATC instructions must be followed
Aircraft Access
All pilots have full access to the entire fleet from day one.
-
No rank-based aircraft restrictions
-
Fly the aircraft that best fits your route or preference
-
Flexible model matching may be used when necessary
Pilots are encouraged to fly Wy’East-branded aircraft whenever possible.
Advanced Aircraft Management
Wy’East Virtual Airlines leverages FlightLinq’s advanced aircraft management capabilities to add operational depth.
This includes:
-
Aircraft utilization tracking
-
Simulated wear and maintenance cycles
-
Fleet condition monitoring
As additional systems come online—including a future financial and economic model—this framework will allow Wy’East to grow into a more detailed airline environment while preserving a relaxed, pilot-first experience.
